Monthly Hide Update

Updated: Nov 20, 2023

Here is our monthly update from our hide near Aviemore in the Cairngorms.

Our Local Badger Clan - There are at least eight Badgers in our group and they are now looking like they are getting into their winter coats, which are bushier than they are in the summertime. They still feed together peacefully, though sometimes with squabbles. The Badgers visit our hide very regularly and will often spend long periods of time quietly searching for the bait scattered around the hide. They will often show examples of their strength as they lift large tree stumps to get that last peanut!

Pine Marten Sightings This Month - We have had both the male and female Pine Marten coming in, they can come in and feed for between ten to twenty minutes on average, sometimes more. Both have continued to amaze the guests and they are just starting to get their thicker winter coats preparing for the months ahead.

What else have we seen at the hide this month - We have seen Wood Mice and a few Bank Voles, bats, a Tawny Owl was seen one evening, which we have only seen once before this year and it remains a very unusual sighting. During a hide watch we have speakers that pick up an external microphone and we were able to hear distant stags roaring towards the end of the rutt and a male a Tawny Owl hooting.
